Restaurant chain articles

[edit]

I was wanting to make more articles on restaurant and quick-service food chains, but how in the hell do you distinguish through all the "X chain opens in X city" articles to get to the ones that are actually useful? I created Slutty Vegan in 2022, which I found much easier to do due to its low amount of locations at the time I made the article, but some of these chains I'm considering have 100+ locations and as such Google News is swamped with these minor restaurant opening articles. I've seen some good sources like Nation's Restaurant News and QSR Magazine focus more on the history and business decisions of the chains, but I don't want to rely on only 2 or 3 good sources for an article. wizzito | say hello! 14:38, 18 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

e.g. let's look at Playa Bowls, which has no WP article as of yet but almost 300 locations and at least one article in QSR. Out of the 10 most recent articles about them, 6 are about new locations, 1 is about a local fundraising event featuring a chain outpost, 1 is the milestone 300th location, 1 is about a landlord change and the last one is about business decisions by one chain franchisee. Multiple pages of this stuff just keeps going, most of it restaurant openings. I would use Google's search delimiters but they don't work on specifically news articles. It's incredibly difficult to sort through this stuff. wizzito | say hello! 14:43, 18 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Where do I put this type of information?

[edit]

I often see information such as "As of the early 21st century, most cooking in the Ivory Coast that took place in homes in urban areas was performed by women from outside the core household unit, including relatives from rural areas finding lodging, and paid help. The exception to this occurred during festive events, when household members cooked together under the direction of the household matriarch."

I like this type of insight, I think it's valuable, but I'm not sure where to put it. It seems too specific for Culture of Ivory Coast. Ivorian cuisine says it covers "the traditional cuisine of Côte d'Ivoire". Most "cuisine articles" I see focus on traditional ingredients and dishes and their preparations, and not food cultural practices. The well-written Mediterranean cuisine seems to affirm this. I appreciate any guidance. Rollinginhisgrave (talk | contributions) 09:43, 9 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Pictures for the "History" section of the Egyptian cuisine article

[edit]

Hello! I’ve recently done extensive work on the Egyptian cuisine article, including the addition of a substantial history section that traces culinary developments across various periods. In the process, I’ve combed through numerous online archives and repositories to locate historically appropriate images to accompany each era, even paying for some services like PICRYL, but to no avail.

While I’ve managed to find material for some periods, I’ve encountered considerable difficulty sourcing suitable images for the Greco-Roman and Medieval periods. I've come across a few options for the Early Modern period, though I believe these could still be improved as they don't really encapsulate the essence of what the text is describing.

If anyone happens to have access to collections, public domain, Creative Commons, or personal, that contain relevant imagery, or any material you’d be willing to contribute, I would be enormously grateful. I suspect that some editors here may have expertise in food history or cultural heritage. Personally, I’m a layman with an interest in documenting Egyptian culture as extensively as possible, and work primarily with what I can find online. Turnopoems (talk) 15:04, 9 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
